I fly with Jaybird Because:
Jaybird is a place where I can feel free in my body, a safe space for total self-expression and emotional release. Prior to teaching, my journey began as a Jaybird guest. Through movement and breath, I was able to navigate some of the most difficult times in my life, and my hope is to share what I've learned with every person who enters the space. Jaybird also represents community to me; I've formed many beautiful friendships during my time working at this studio.
My journey to jaybird:
My journey to Jaybird began 11 years ago when I started practicing yoga after injuring a disc in my spine. Yoga helped me regain mobility and comfort in my body. Gradually, the practice transitioned from a physical release to an emotional one. This transformational practice changed my life, motivating me to share it with others.
I started as front desk staff at Jaybird to become more involved in the community and embarked on a 200-hour YTT & 50-hour Yin training. Additionally, I'm a contemporary trained actor, with a significant portion of my training focused on daily breath work, movement, and tapping. I enjoy blending my diverse trainings to craft classes that encourage self-expression and connection with our bodies.
Teaching at Jaybird for over a year has been a beautiful experience. I'm deeply grateful to the two iconic Jaybird instructors, Ariel Swan & Mikaela Millington, for their guidance and support along this journey.
What MiNdfulness Means to Me:
Connecting to self and others - and understanding that we are in control of the way we show up in the world each and everyday.
words to live by:
“Your joy is your sorrow unmasked, and the selfsame well from which your laughter rises was oftentimes filled with your tears. And how can it be? The deeper that sorrow carves into your being the more joy you can contain.”
— Khalil Gibran.
This is my favourite quote from the prophet. The Prophet changed the way I understood life. In order to feel the good things in life you have to feel the bad things. Otherwise you don’t feel at all, and that was a large realization for me. I grew up in a household where self expression wasn’t safe, and so I learnt not to feel. This quote inspires me to let go of the behaviors I learned as a child and embrace both the joy and sadness in life with freedom.
